Musings & Rants
April 2 The saddest tree to remove this year is a Japanese maple that was diseased and half dead that was in our back yard. I'm actually watching it being removed now. The area surrounding the now down tree has a huge oak and a spruce tree, so planting another tree there is not an option because of the roots. The area slopes and we may build it up with soil and plant perennials there. Last year, the electrical company removed tons of hemlock branches that were near the power lines at the end of our back yard. Two of the hemlocks had almost no branches left--one was dead, actually. So they were just removed and will be replaced by a couple of evergreens. We are also going to plant a bunch of evergreens along our fence for further privacy. I can't wait...my husband and I will dig holes this weekend and then go shopping for young, healthy trees that will improve the environment, provide privacy and look great!
